President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), on the occasion of his 84th birthday.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the former leader as a key figure in Nigeria’s history whose years in office left an indelible mark on the nation’s socio-economic and political development.
The President commended General Babangida’s illustrious military career, noting his service as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment, Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and later as Chief of Army Staff.
Reflecting on his administration, Tinubu said Babangida’s government would be remembered for massive investments in infrastructure such as the construction of the Third Mainland Bridge, as well as economic reforms that opened up Nigeria’s economy.
He also highlighted Babangida’s role in establishing key national institutions, including the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
Tinubu further acknowledged Babangida’s role in the creation of new states and the relocation of Nigeria’s Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja.While expressing gratitude for his service and leadership, the President prayed to Almighty Allah to bless General Babangida with many more years in good health and renewed strength.
