Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has made a startling claim about the 2023 governorship tussle in the state, alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Pastor Tonye Cole, once approached him with a plot to unseat Governor Siminalayi Fubara through the Supreme Court.

Wike disclosed this while recalling how Cole allegedly visited him at his private residence after sensing friction between him and Fubara.

“Immediately Tonye Cole saw that I and Fubara had issues, he came to my house. We sat by my swimming pool side. He said he had come so that we could work together. I asked him about his loyalty to Amaechi, and he told me he didn’t care about Amaechi, that Amaechi cannot tell him what to do. Imagine such a character,” Wike alleged.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory further claimed that Pastor Cole reached out to the then Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, as part of his moves to cement the alleged arrangement.

As at press time, neither Pastor Tonye Cole nor his camp had responded to Wike’s claims.
