Senator Austin Akobundu has poured encomiums on former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), describing him as a man of “exceptional loyalty, patriotism and courage” who “helped the nation significantly degrade terrorism, banditry, insurgency” that once threatened the nation’s corporate existence.

The Senator stated this in his birthday message to the Isuilwuato-born former Army General.

Akobundu, who expressed joy and gratitude to God for granting Lt Gen. Ihejirika the grace to mark his 70th birthday in good health and sound mind, recalled with nostalgia, the uncommon gallantry displayed by the General in his days as Chief of Army Staff which saw to the substantial degradation of terrorism, insurgency and banditry. He further stated that such “gallantry strengthened the foundation for Nigeria’s progress in the fight against these threats to date.”

Continuing, the Abia Central lawmaker told the celebrant that “It is in appreciation of these rich attributes of yours that the entire nation stands still to celebrate you on your 70th birthday, and your name eternally etched in the history of mankind.

“It is an honour well-deserved!”

“On behalf of my family and the people of Abia Central Senatorial District, I wish you a happy birthday, and pray God to grant you a long life in good health and happiness,” he concluded.
