The Rivers State Elders Council has called on political stakeholders and citizens to embrace peace and unity as the state transitions from emergency rule to full democratic governance under Governor Siminilayi Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and the House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon Martins Amaewhule.

In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba (OON, DSSRS), the elders noted that the return to normal governance provides an opportunity for reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to the development of the state.
The Council urged all stakeholders to shun inflammatory rhetoric and divisive actions, stressing that the recent reconciliation between Governor Fubara and the Assembly leadership, affirmed before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, must be respected and sustained.“We admonish individuals and groups still fanning the embers of discord to accept that the crisis is over.
They must prioritize the interest of the state and allow the governor and lawmakers to work harmoniously without distractions,” the statement read.Commending Rivers citizens for their patience during the crisis, the elders also praised President Tinubu for his timely intervention, describing his actions as decisive in averting a major political disaster in the state.The Council further acknowledged the role of former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for facilitating reconciliation efforts and ensuring both parties presented their resolution directly to the President.“Your astute resolution of the Rivers crisis is yet another manifestation of your goodwill towards our state,” the Council told President Tinubu, assuring him of the continued support of Rivers people for his Renewed Hope Agenda.The elders emphasized that sustaining peace and unity is crucial for progress and development, urging all political actors to work together in the interest of Rivers State.
