Fresh tensions have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has presented two firm and non-negotiable conditions ahead of a proposed reconciliation meeting with the party’s leadership.

The reconciliation effort, expected to involve a delegation led by Tanimu Turaki, is aimed at resolving the deepening crisis threatening to further fracture Nigeria’s main opposition party.

However, the Wike camp has made it clear that any peace deal must first address its key demands.

Speaking to THISDAY, the National Publicity Secretary of the caretaker committee loyal to Wike, Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that the group would only participate in reconciliation talks if its two core conditions are respected.

According to him, the PDP’s March 29 national convention must hold as scheduled, insisting that the exercise is already underway with congresses taking place across local government areas and states.

“The March 29 national convention is not negotiable. It must hold,” Mohammed stated, emphasizing that the ongoing congresses are part of the party’s constitutional process.

The second condition, he added, is that no new national caretaker committee should be created, stressing that the current caretaker structure already in place should remain intact.

“Setting up another national caretaker committee in whatever name should not be entertained because there is already one in place,” he said.

Mohammed further revealed that each faction attending the reconciliation meeting is expected to present written conditions to avoid misinterpretation or misquotation during negotiations, with each camp sending ten representatives to the talks.

Meanwhile, former National Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu, confirmed that consultations were ongoing between the rival camps but admitted that no truce has been reached yet.

“We have been meeting but no truce yet,” Anyanwu said, noting that discussions were ongoing to ease tensions and create a pathway toward resolving the lingering crisis within the party.
