Oha Nsulu Unity Forum, ONUF, Isiala Ngwa North LGA Abia State has sent hearty felicitations to His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Uche Dominic Aliche (The Ehuma 1 Of Akwu Anunu) on the auspicious occasion of his 80th birthday celebration.

The President General, ONUF, Dr Eric Opah in statement conveying the birthday wishes described the revered traditional ruler and distinguished Medical Practitioner as a great and worthy son of Nsululand who has over the past 50 years distinguished himself as a committed medical practitioner, an outstanding community leader and a man of peace.

HRM Eze Aliche was born on January 26, 1946, at Aba General Hospital to Mazi Moses Nwanenwa Aliche, a produce merchant, from Umuamata Umuakwu and Jenny Edward from Umuogele Umuakwu.

The Royal Father attended Primary School in Enugu, and after his mother’s death in 1955, he relocated to Umuakwu where he attended Umuodu Primary School from 1955–1957. In 1958, he continued his Primary education in Lagos and completed it in Enugu in 1959, where he passed his FSLC Examination with distinction.

He attended College of the Immaculate Conception (C.I.C) Enugu from 1960–1964 and passed his WASC with distinctions in all subjects. He did his Higher School Certificate (HSC) in the same school and passed his three science papers at Advanced Level.

He was offered admission to several Universities in the USA and UK, but the Civil war prevented him from going abroad.

He taught as a Science Master at Assumpta Girls’ Secondary School, Ikenanzizi Obowo from 1967-1968, and he later joined the Biafra Army Engineers in 1968.

After the Civil war, he gained admission to the University of Ibadan where he studied Medicine.

He obtained his MBBS in 1975, served his internship at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Kaduna and did his youth service at St. Brendan’s Catholic Hospital, Bacita, Kwara State. He worked for the Catholic Hospital and then, relocated back home to establish the cottage Hospital, Nbawsi which he built from scratch to a standard medical institution. He is a member of the Nigeria Medical Association since 1978. He has attended many courses in General Practice and Family Medicine. All these long years, he has devoted his energy and talent to the service of the underserved rural population between Umuahia and Aba.

There was a time in the 80’s when Cottage Hospital was the only functional health institution in the old Isiala Ngwa LGA. The medical void was efficiently covered by Cottage Hospital Nbawsi.

When he came to Nbawsi, there was no electricity, he had to function at night, using a small generator. When he ran short of fuel, he had to make do with touch light to perform emergency surgical operations.

For 50 years, HRM Eze Aliche devoted his life to the service of the underserved people of Isiala Ngwa North and South, including even the present Umuahia South.

In 1994, the Eze of Ama Asaa, Nsulu, Eze Lawrence Ogbonna, conferred on him a Chieftaincy title of “AKA NA AZO NDU I” of Ama Asaa Nsulu.

When Akwuanunu Nsulu Autonomous Community was created, the elders of Umuakwu unanimously approached him to become their Eze in 2000. He was elected “EHUMA I OF AKWUANUNU” in 2001 and coronated in 2003

Eze. Aliche married Nne Grace Nwosu from Umunkpeyi Nvosi, who is now late and in the year 2000, he married Ihoma Stella Aliche. He is blessed with many children some of whom are medical doctors.

His rule in Umuakwu so far, has brought a lot of progress, unity and prosperity to the community.

HRM Eze Aliche was elected the Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North Traditional Rulers Council in 2020, and currently, he is a member of Abia State Traditional Rulers Council.

He midwived the reconciliation and unity that has returned to Oha Nsulu Unity Forum to the glory of God.

Dr. Aliche says he has so far lived a humble and fulfilled life and is satisfied with his commitment to service to the rural downtrodden. He is contented with the little he has and not attracted by riches and flamboyance.

“On behalf of Oha Nsulu Unity Forum, we wish HRM Eze Dr. Aliche more years on the throne, good health and God’s protection”, Dr. Opah concluded.
