The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday at the commissioning of its new headquarters (annex) in Gudu, Abuja, honoured the Senate Committee Chairman on Air Force, Senator Austin Akobundu (Abia Central), the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa among others, for their support and collaboration with the NAF in its mission to secure Nigeria’s skies, root out insurgency, banditry and such other threats to Nigeria’s internal security and territorial integrity, and sustain its operational excellence.

In his remarks at the event which attracted top military chiefs, the minister of defence, national assembly members, and other stakeholders, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, said the new complex was acquired as an unfinished edifice initially planned as a hotel but was remodeled and completed within one year by NAF engineers and works personnel. While thanking the Senate and the House of Representatives committees on Air Force for their partnerships in the Command’s journey that have contributed to its excellence, he stated that the project demonstrated his command’s mission of transforming the NAF into an agile and resilient force through improved welfare, infrastructural renewal, and effective resource management.
On his part, the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru commended the leadership of the NAF over the new structure describing it as being “in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises security, welfare, and infrastructure as foundations of national stability.”
In his remarks to the media, Senator Austin Akobundu who was at the event as Special Guest and in his capacity as Acting Chairman of the senate committee on Air Force , said the “complex provides the needed excellent atmosphere and ambience needed by men, officers and staff of the Air Force to carry out their duties with panache and efficiency. It carries with it Nigeria’s rich history of achieving peace through strength and victory through sacrifice. Those behind the vision must be eternally appreciated,” he enthused.
He pledged the continued commitment of the senate committee on Air Force in particular and that of the senate in general to the needs of the NAF as they discharge their constitutional duties.
Highlights of the event included commissioning of the new complex by the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, a tour of the edifice, presentation of awards to some of the guests, including Senator Akobundu, and a group photograph of the guests.
