INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Gabriel Yomere, made this known during an interview with Super 93.3 FM and BraveNews correspondent, Peter Henry-Dee. Yomere explained that the Commission did not accept the resignation of Edison Ehie, a former Deputy Speaker, who reportedly stepped down from his position and membership of the Assembly during the recent political crisis in the state.
He further disclosed that the Rivers State House of Assembly itself had not officially accepted Ehie’s resignation. As such, according to INEC, his seat remains validly occupied.
Yomere added that the only constituency where INEC may likely conduct a bye-election before the end of the year is Khana Constituency Two, following the death of Hon. Dinebari Loolo, who previously represented the area.
The REC assured that INEC remains committed to fairness and impartiality.
“There will be no preferential treatment to any political party,” he declared.
