INEC National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, confirmed on Thursday that all non-sensitive materials have been delivered, while the final batch of sensitive materials will arrive today. He urged political parties, candidates, security agencies and voters to adhere strictly to electoral laws and avoid acts that could disrupt the polls.
The by-elections will be conducted in two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo, five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Oyo, and nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba and Zamfara. Court-ordered re-runs will also take place in Enugu and Kano States. Security agencies have pledged to provide maximum protection for voters, officials and materials, while the police in Jigawa have announced a temporary closure of the border with Niger Republic to prevent external interference.
Political parties have intensified last-minute campaigns, with some signing peace accords to ensure a violence-free process. In Adamawa, the Ganye State Constituency election follows the death of Abdulmalik Jauro in May 2024, while the Ibadan North Federal Constituency poll comes after the passing of Musiliudeen Akinremi in July 2024. Continuous Voter Registration is expected to resume soon, with online pre-registration starting on August 18 and physical registration from August 25.
