Immediate past Governor of Rivers State and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alongside his political protégé and suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, are currently in London for high-level consultations ahead of Fubara’s official return to government on September 18, 2025.

Fubara and Wike have been at loggerheads since October 2023 over control of Rivers State’s political structure, a feud that split the State House of Assembly.
While four members loyal to Fubara emerged as the majority, 27 lawmakers aligned with Wike had their seats declared vacant.
The crisis deepened, sparking a series of legal and political battles, including a Supreme Court ruling that nullified decisions made by both Fubara’s administration and the Oko-Jumbo-led four-man Assembly.
President Bola Tinubu had intervened twice—first in December 2023 and again in August 2025—brokering peace between the warring factions.
Sources told Ireporta that Wike and Fubara’s London meeting is focused on finalizing key appointments, including the list of commissioners, the Chief of Staff, and the Secretary to the State Government, as part of efforts to consolidate peace and stabilize governance in Rivers State.
