In a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the DHQ described the report as “malicious” and aimed at creating unnecessary tension and distrust among Nigerians.
According to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), the cancellation of the Independence Day parade was purely to enable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attend a strategic bilateral meeting abroad, while also allowing the military to sustain ongoing operations against terrorism, insurgency, and banditry.
The statement further clarified that the recent arrest of sixteen officers, referenced in the publication, was strictly part of a routine internal disciplinary process. An investigative panel has been set up, and its findings will be made public.
The DHQ reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to democracy, noting that the Armed Forces remain loyal to the Constitution and the Federal Government under the leadership of President Tinubu.
It also urged citizens to disregard misinformation and continue to support security agencies in their efforts to safeguard the country.
“Democracy is forever,” the statement concluded.
