A major setback has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of its National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, as members of the Rivers State PDP State Executive and Local Government Party Chairmen have formally dissociated themselves from the event.

In a strongly worded disclaimer issued and signed by the affected officials, they stated that they were not consulted, not communicated with, and never gave approval for their names or photographs to appear in the brochure of the proposed Ibadan convention.

The group outlined the reasons for their withdrawal as follows:

  1. Deepening Leadership Crisis: They cited the unresolved leadership crisis at the national level, which they say has polarized the party across several states.
  2. Litigations: Ongoing litigations and counter-litigations were highlighted as factors worsening the internal crisis.
  3. Breakdown of Communication: They reported that there has been no proper communication channel between the national leadership and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, leaving them “incommunicado.”
  4. Lack of Consultation: According to the disclaimer, no consultation or approval was sought before their names were included in the proposed convention documents.

Given these issues, the Rivers PDP executives and chairmen unanimously resolved NOT to participate in the PDP National Convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The group further reaffirmed their loyalty to their state leader, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declaring him the legitimate leader of the PDP in Rivers State.

The disclaimer was accompanied by a list of signatories—comprising party chairmen, state officers, and other PDP stakeholders—signed and dated between November 12 and 13, 2025.
