The governor formally announced his decision in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Diso–Chiranchi Ward of the NNPP in Gwale Local Government Area. The resignation takes effect from Sunday, January 25, 2026.
In the letter, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership and members for their support since 2022. He cited persistent internal leadership disputes, ongoing legal battles, and growing disenfranchisement within the party as reasons for his decision.
According to him, the internal crises have created deep and seemingly irreconcilable divisions, generating uncertainty at both state and national levels. The governor said his resignation was taken in good faith and in the best interest of the people of Kano State, reaffirming his commitment to peace, unity, and progress in the state.
