The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, suffered a major setback on Saturday as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC officially boycotted the event amid ongoing legal battles surrounding the convention.

Confirming the development during his address, Adamawa State Governor and Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, announced his withdrawal from overseeing the exercise.
According to Fintiri:
“With the absence of INEC and the various litigations for and against this convention, it is not within my prerogative to continue with this exercise. I leave the convention delegates to decide.”
The boycott by INEC reinforces concerns raised by several party stakeholders over the legitimacy of the convention. Earlier in the week, allies of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike dismissed the event—organized in Oyo State—as an “early Christmas party.”
Meanwhile, former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido had repeatedly warned that proceeding without resolving the outstanding court orders would render the convention illegal.
