Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Monday afternoon paid a surprise visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Prison, where Kanu is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction by the Federal High Court on a seven-count charge.

The visit marks the governor’s first known physical engagement with the IPOB leader since his incarceration and has already stirred nationwide reactions.

Confirming the development, Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimako, took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle to express appreciation to Governor Otti for keeping his word. Ejimako wrote:

> “Thanks, Your Excellency, Dr ALEX OTTI, for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, MAZI NNAMDI KANU. You’re a man of your words & gutsy to boot. May God bless you. And may this your visit be the first step to ending this undeserved ordeal, sooner than later.”

Details of the discussions during the visit remain undisclosed.
