Senator Orji, popularly known as Ochendo, has had a long political career in Abia State and at the national level. He previously served as Chief of Staff to the then Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, before being elected as a two-term Governor of Abia State on the platform of the PDP. He also represented Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly for two terms.
His defection to the APC is seen as a significant political development, further strengthening the party’s structure and influence in Abia State. Political observers believe the move will boost the APC’s chances as it consolidates its presence in the South-East state.
The defection of the former governor adds to the growing list of high-profile politicians aligning with the ruling party in Abia.
