The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to Friday’s judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, describing it as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process but insisting it will not affect the party’s upcoming National Convention.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP said the ruling by Justice Kolawole Omotosho does not vitiate the party’s ability to continue with preparations for the convention, where new national officers will be elected to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The opposition party cited a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, urging members, chapters, and organs of the PDP to remain focused and steadfast ahead of the convention.

While expressing commitment to the rule of law, the PDP disclosed that its legal team has been directed to appeal the judgment immediately, reaffirming its resolve to uphold and defend multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
