The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has backed the indefinite suspension of the Senator representing the FCT in the National Assembly, Ireti Kingibe, by her ward in Wuse.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the senator was reportedly suspended by her ward executives over alleged anti-party activities.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the FCT chapter of the party said the suspension was justified, accusing the senator of withholding funds meant for campaign activities during the recent Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

The party also alleged that Senator Kingibe initially provided an office for the party but later retrieved it under what it described as “strange circumstances” without any justifiable reason.

According to the party, the development has left the ADC FCT chapter without a proper meeting space.

“Till date, the ADC FCT is still holding important strategic meetings under trees even when we have a sitting senator,” the party said.

Meanwhile, several calls, SMS and WhatsApp messages sent by ARISE News to Senator Kingibe seeking her reaction were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.

In an open letter addressed to members of the party’s National Working Committee, the FCT Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Samuel Chukwudi Nwigbo, questioned how a serious political party would attempt to enter a major election with a candidate who allegedly refused to openly campaign for the party in an election conducted within her constituency.

The letter, titled “The Many Sins of Distinguished Senator Ireti and Why Her Suspension is Justifiable,” was obtained by ARISE News in Abuja.
