In a statement issued by the Acting State Publicity Secretary and Vice Chairman (South), Enyinnaya Appolos, the party said INEC’s decision was in full compliance with existing Federal High Court judgments and aligned with the Electoral Act as well as the PDP Constitution. According to the Abia PDP, the absence of the commission renders the entire convention “procedurally defective and legally unsustainable.”
The party condemned the conduct of the convention, describing it as a blatant disregard for due process, judicial orders, and internal party procedures. It noted that organizers chose to rely on an “ineffectual ex parte order” despite two valid Federal High Court rulings prohibiting the event.
Abia PDP further argued that holding a national convention while congresses in key states—including Anambra and Ebonyi—remain outstanding and are subject to restraining court orders, amounts to “a brazen affront to the rule of law.”
The chapter urged party members and stakeholders to remain calm and trust in the judicial process, noting that the issues surrounding the Ibadan convention are now before the Court of Appeal.
