According to Daily Nigerian, the planned defection will occur without the backing of former Kano State Governor and NNPP national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is said to have rejected the move.
Governor Yusuf currently enjoys strong legislative backing, with 25 of the 27 members of the Kano State House of Assembly elected on the NNPP platform, following the death of two lawmakers.

The report further claims that the governor has resolved to part ways with his deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam, who is expected to face impeachment as part of the political realignment. This move is reportedly aimed at paving the way for Murtala Sule-Garo, the APC’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 election, to emerge as the new deputy governor.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Kano State Government, the NNPP, or the APC regarding the alleged defection and planned impeachment.
