The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of a family reportedly abducted by suspected herdsmen in Amakama, Umuahia, following a coordinated security operation.

Speaking with ABN TV on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that upon receiving information about the incident, the Commissioner of Police immediately mobilised tactical teams to search for the victims. She added that the police also collaborated with community vigilantes, local hunters, and other security aides to strengthen the rescue effort.

According to the PPRO, the joint team advanced into the surrounding bush during the search operation. On sensing the approach and pressure from the advancing security operatives, the suspects reportedly abandoned the victims and fled the scene.

The victims comprising a man, his wife, and their three children were subsequently rescued by the police in collaboration with local vigilante members. They are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital, while arrangements are being made for their family members to reunite with them.

DSP Chinaka further stated that investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects, assuring residents that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
