The leadership crisis in Abia APC, though longstanding, has consistently manifested during party congresses, often resulting in divisions driven by the varying interests of party leaders.

The internal crisis became evident in 2015, when the party was still relatively unknown in the South-East. By 2019, the situation had worsened, as key stakeholders in the State Assembly were at loggerheads with one another. The crisis typically began during congresses, leading to leadership disputes that negatively affected party cohesion and overall electoral performance.
In 2023, the conflict escalated into a full-blown crisis, as the same issues resurfaced and the state leadership of the party became the subject of litigation up to the Supreme Court.
Interventions by the party’s national leadership initially yielded little progress, as the gladiators were determined to outmanoeuvre one another, even as the party’s fortunes continued to decline ahead of the elections.
However, the Tinubu effect became evident in the most recent leadership impasse in Abia. It will be recalled that the congress in Abia was cancelled, leading many to conclude that the party was heading down the same familiar path. In his characteristic decisive manner, Mr. President halted the process that threatened to undermine Abia APC, a pattern that had plagued the party for years.
The warring factions were largely the same actors from 2023, both at the state level and within the National Working Committee, with the exception of the new National Chairman and National Secretary of our great party.
Mr. President’s leadership qualities were unmistakable, as he refused to look the other way while Abia APC was being consumed by yet another avoidable internal crisis. It is clear that his firm and strategic interventions, carried out through the NWC, were respected and adhered to by all parties involved.
All accolades go to the leadership qualities of Mr. President, whose timely intervention has spared the party from reliving the recurring cycle of crisis that has persisted since 2014.
Today, Abia APC stands stronger and more united, focused on delivering victory for Mr. President in 2027 and reclaiming Government House in Umuahia.
Our strength lies in our unity and cohesion.
We sincerely thank all our leaders for their sacrifices and understanding throughout this period. It is a clear indication that Abia APC will speak with one voice in 2027.
Those who predicted that Abia APC would remain embroiled in conflict and litigation up to the eve of the general elections have been highly disappointed
It is very important I appreciate all the leaders who contributed through selfless sacrifices, advisory, and hard work to make this reconciliation possible, our esteemed leaders, His Excellency Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, H. E Sen. T. A. Orji, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, Hon. Emeka Atuma, Sen Nkechi Nwaogu, and many others, special appreciation goes to our indefatigable Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, under whose charge the APC in Abia became healthier, united and focused for victory
