The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency, Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu, has pledged his full support for the 2026 Asa Day Celebration and declared that the forthcoming 2027 general elections in the area would not be a do-or-die affair.
Nwogu, who made the declaration while receiving members of the 2026 Asa Day Celebration Committee at his country home in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, on Monday, November 2, said political differences should not be allowed to undermine peace and unity among the people.
The APC candidate maintained that he had no personal disagreement with any of his political opponents, stressing that he had neither declared war against them nor encouraged his supporters to engage in name-calling or campaign of calumny.
According to him, electoral contests should be conducted with mutual respect, tolerance and a sense of responsibility, irrespective of political affiliations.
He expressed confidence that the 2027 elections would be peaceful in Ukwa, urging political actors and their supporters to shun hostility and embrace issue-based campaigns.
On the 2026 Asa Day Celebration, Nwogu assured the committee of his readiness to contribute towards its success, describing the event as a collective responsibility that required the active participation of all sons and daughters of Asa.
He said he would continue to support initiatives that promote the cultural identity, unity and development of Asa land, adding that the tradition of collective contributions to the annual celebration must be sustained.
“All of us must give our helping hands to support Asa Day. We have been doing it, and we will not stop doing it. This programme must work out,” Nwogu said.
The APC candidate also commended the committee for its efforts to bring Asa people together, assuring its members that their sacrifices and contributions towards the success of the celebration would not be in vain.
Earlier, the committee, led by its Chairman, Engr. Sterling Chinwendu Uruakpa, and Secretary, Sir Boniface Nwigwe, said the visit was part of its ongoing consultations with political leaders and other stakeholders across Asa land.
Uruakpa said the delegation sought Nwogu’s fatherly advice, guidance, encouragement and support, while briefing him on preparations for the forthcoming celebration.
He disclosed that the programme would feature a political summit expected to attract political leaders, elder statesmen, women, youths and other stakeholders to deliberate on a common development agenda for Asa land ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chairman noted that the committee considered the support and contributions of prominent stakeholders necessary to achieving the objectives of the celebration.
