The Abia State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crimes with the successful raid of a notorious kidnappers’ den in Akwa Ibom State.According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, operatives stormed the criminals’ hideout at Ikot Ukpon Village, Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday evening, August 21, 2025, following credible intelligence.

During the operation, police arrested six suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of the Director of Sobaz Oil and Gas, which occurred on March 4, 2025, along Azumiri Road in Ukwa East LGA, Abia State.

That incident also claimed the lives of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Tanko Naptip, Anayo Ukwu, and Mr. Chidozie Confidence Chijioke, Managing Director of DozzMan Filling Station.Recovered from the hideout were:Two AK-47 riflesFifty-seven live rounds of ammunitionOne locally made pistolSix magazinesA large bag containing items suspected to be charms and spiritual materialsHowever, while exiting the camp, the police team was ambushed by other gang members, leading to a fierce gun battle.

The six arrested suspects sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to escape and were confirmed dead on the way to the hospital. Two police officers were also injured and are currently receiving treatment.

Other gang members fled with bullet wounds, Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, vowed that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state. He assured residents that the Command will continue to work with its Akwa Ibom counterpart to track down fleeing members of the gang and rid the region of kidnappers.
