The African Action Congress (AAC) has formally written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting approval to use the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated October 21, 2026, and addressed to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the opposition party proposed November 11, 2026, as the date for the inauguration ceremony.
The letter, signed by the AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, also requested that the Presidency provide food, drinks and other logistical support for participants attending the event.
According to the party, the request was made in the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties in Nigeria.
The AAC argued that its request was consistent with arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during a similar political engagement.
“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for participants at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement,” the letter stated.
The opposition party maintained that granting its request would demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to fairness, equal access to public institutions and the principles of democratic governance.
It further stressed that public institutions should serve all Nigerians irrespective of their political affiliations.
“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,” the party added.
The AAC also appealed to President Tinubu to give favourable consideration to its request and provide information regarding the procedures and conditions necessary to secure approval for the proposed event.
The development comes as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with questions surrounding equal access to government facilities and public resources remaining central to discussions on political fairness.
As of the time of this report, there has been no indication that the Presidency has approved or rejected the AAC’s request.
