Okochukwu’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has already triggered a wave of mass defections across Abia North Senatorial District, particularly in Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Arochukwu Local Government Areas.
Political analysts suggest that the move is a strategic step, with strong speculations that Okochukwu is eyeing the Labour Party’s senatorial ticket for Abia North in the 2027 general elections.
However, the development has sparked tension among some political stakeholders in Ohafia LGA, who reportedly view Okochukwu’s alignment with Governor Otti as a potential threat to their own senatorial ambitions.
The formal declaration and defection ceremony is scheduled to take place at Nkporo, Ohafia LGA, in what is expected to be a major political event in Abia State.
