A political support group, Mandate 27 Group, has expressed confidence in the aspiration of former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, to represent Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027.
The group said Orji’s political experience, leadership record and alignment with the Federal Government would position him to attract more developmental projects and opportunities to the constituency.
In a statement titled “Orji 2027: When Distribution Replaces Deception in Ikwuano Umuahia,” the group argued that effective political representation should be measured by the distribution of developmental benefits rather than political rhetoric and social media engagements.
According to the group, politics may begin with personal interests, but meaningful leadership must ultimately translate into tangible benefits for the people.
Mandate 27 Group maintained that the major consideration for voters ahead of the 2027 general elections should be the capacity of candidates to attract federal projects, create employment opportunities and ensure equitable development across communities.
The group raised concerns over what it described as inadequate federal interventions in parts of the constituency, particularly in education, road infrastructure and erosion control.
It specifically identified Mbato Community Primary School in Ohuhu, erosion challenges in Olokoro and Oboro, and other infrastructure needs as areas requiring urgent attention.
The group argued that Orji, a two-term lawmaker, former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, possesses the experience and political connections needed to address these challenges.
It stated that his aspiration would focus on attracting Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) interventions, ecological funds, federal employment opportunities, agricultural development programmes and technology initiatives for young people.
The group also identified the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a potential avenue through which the constituency could benefit from regional development programmes.
Speaking on Orji’s political alignment, Mandate 27 Group maintained that his association with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political structure and the All Progressives Congress (APC) should be viewed as a strategic advantage rather than a betrayal of political principles.
According to the group, having access to the Federal Government could improve opportunities for attracting projects and securing interventions for communities across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.
It further described Orji’s position as Abia State Chairman of the City Boy Movement as an opportunity to strengthen political relationships that could benefit the constituency.
The group also commended the former Speaker for what it described as his decision to avoid political confrontations despite criticisms directed at him.
It maintained that Orji’s refusal to engage his critics in public exchanges demonstrated political maturity and his determination to concentrate on his ambition and development agenda.
Mandate 27 Group recalled Orji’s leadership of the Abia State House of Assembly, particularly his involvement in legislative administration and community-based empowerment initiatives.
It cited his Direct Touch Initiative as an example of his previous efforts to support women, youths and other groups at the grassroots.
The group stressed that equitable distribution of opportunities would remain central to Orji’s proposed representation, noting that communities across Ohuhu, Ibeku, Olokoro, Oboro and Ikwuano deserve fair consideration in federal development programmes.
It argued that no section of the constituency should be neglected or placed at a disadvantage in the allocation of projects and opportunities.
The group further urged constituents to assess aspirants based on their leadership experience, political influence and ability to facilitate federal interventions rather than campaign promises alone.
According to Mandate 27 Group, Orji’s ambition represents an opportunity to strengthen the constituency’s presence at the national level and pursue greater federal participation in its development.
It expressed optimism that his experience as a former Speaker, combined with his engineering background and political relationships, would enable him to provide effective representation if elected.
The group concluded that the 2027 election should offer the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency an opportunity to prioritise practical development, equitable distribution of resources and accountable representation.
It maintained that Orji’s aspiration reflects what it described as a shift from politics driven by rhetoric to leadership focused on delivering tangible benefits to constituents.
