The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a new directive mandating all airline passengers to completely switch off their mobile phones during take-off and landing.According to the regulatory body, the order, which also covers other electronic devices, harmonizes existing rules and removes the option of keeping devices on “airplane mode” during these critical phases of flight.“

All phones must be switched off during the critical aspects of take-off and landing. All airlines must amend their security programmes to reflect this if different in their current programmes.
No more airplane mode until regulations are reviewed to reflect evolving technological situations,” said Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
The move, NCAA explained, is part of efforts to enhance aviation safety and ensure strict compliance with global best practices.
