Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo has dismissed as misleading a publication claiming that he called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distance himself from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and that Rivers people had rejected the former Rivers State governor.
In a statement reacting to the report, Ihunwo reaffirmed his membership of the Rainbow Coalition and his alignment with the political direction of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Ihunwo said his position had remained consistent, stressing that he had publicly stated that he was following Governor Fubara’s leadership and political direction.
According to him, he would continue to work with members of the Rainbow Coalition in support of the coalition’s candidates, including President Tinubu.
He noted that the position was publicly reported following an interview he granted in August 2026, arguing that the recent publication should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from the coalition or opposition to Tinubu and other candidates supported by the group.
Ihunwo attributed the publication to what he described as activities by political opponents seeking to create confusion around his political position.
He, however, said such activities would not distract him from his commitment to peace, reconciliation and the political direction of Governor Fubara.
“My position is clear: I remain a member of the Rainbow Coalition. I remain committed to working with His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Executive Governor of Rivers State, and I will continue to support the candidates His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara supports, including Mr. President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated.
Ihunwo further said his political position was not determined by social-media publications or what he described as propaganda.
He reiterated his commitment to the Rainbow Coalition and the collective political direction of the Rivers State governor.
