President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in the revised list of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, according to a report by Arise News.
Sources cited by the news platform said Wike is expected to serve as the president’s campaign coordinator for Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Despite his proposed role in the president’s campaign structure, Wike is reportedly expected to remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and will not defect to the APC. His role, according to the report, will be to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the election.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is also reportedly being considered for inclusion in the campaign council as one of its spokespersons.
Meanwhile, the proposed structure is expected to assign separate responsibilities to some of the APC’s most influential figures.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, designated as Deputy Director-General (South), and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, designated as Deputy Director-General (North), are reportedly not expected to report directly to Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who is tipped to serve as Director-General of the campaign council.
Under the proposed arrangement, Yari would coordinate the day-to-day operations of the presidential campaign council as Director-General.
However, Akpabio and Barau are expected to operate independently of Yari, with direct lines of responsibility within the broader campaign structure.
The arrangement is expected to create distinct spheres of responsibility for key political figures involved in Tinubu’s presidential campaign.
