In a statement on Friday by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Asogwa, Usman described a recent court order allegedly secured by Abure’s camp as “an act of desperation.” The order, reportedly issued by a Nasarawa State High Court, allegedly directs the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload the names of candidates backed by Abure’s faction for the February 2026 FCT council polls.Usman questioned the timing of the order’s release, calling it “suspicious” as it coincided with nationwide bye-elections.
She also referenced Abure’s alleged involvement in a forgery case linked to the 2023 Ebonyi State governorship election, claiming the Attorney-General of the Federation has directed his prosecution.
She further argued that the Nasarawa court lacked jurisdiction over INEC, a federal body, and accused Abure of “forum shopping” by avoiding the Federal High Court, which has exclusive jurisdiction in such matters.
Usman said the move amounted to “a blatant abuse of judicial process” that should attract sanctions.Citing a Supreme Court ruling of April 4, 2025, which she said removed Abure from office, Usman alleged that he was working with the APC-led Federal Government to undermine the Labour Party and weaken Nigeria’s democratic institutions.“Their unholy alliance serves one purpose alone: to erode our democratic institutions and diminish the authority of the Supreme Court,” she said, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant against what she described as a plot to destabilize both the party and the nation’s democracy.
