Abia State University, Uturu, has announced vacancies for qualified candidates seeking employment into various teaching positions across several departments of the institution.
The university made the announcement in an internal advertisement dated September 8, 2026, inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill vacant academic positions.
The available positions cut across departments including Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Public Health, Fine and Applied Arts, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Nursing, Religious Studies and Philosophy, Education/Government, Food Science and Technology, Mass Communication and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The positions range from Assistant Lecturer to Professor, depending on the department and area of specialisation.
For Mass Communication, vacancies are available in Advertising, Broadcasting, Film, Multimedia, Journalism and Public Relations, with openings at Lecturer I, Lecturer II and Assistant Lecturer levels.
The university stated that candidates applying for Assistant Lecturer positions must possess a good Honours Degree and a Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline.
For Lecturer II, applicants are required to have a PhD in the relevant discipline, or a Master’s Degree with at least two years of cognate experience, alongside evidence of scholarship through publications.
For Lecturer I, candidates are expected to possess a Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline with at least five years of cognate experience, or a PhD with a minimum of two years’ experience as a Lecturer II. Scholarly publications in reputable journals are also required.
Candidates seeking Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor positions must meet higher academic and experience requirements, including a PhD in the relevant discipline, required years of service at the preceding academic rank and scholarly publications in reputable journals.
How to Apply
Interested candidates who meet the requirements are expected to submit 15 copies of their applications and Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the Office of the Registrar, Abia State University, Uturu.
The CV is expected to contain details including the applicant’s full name, date and place of birth, state and local government of origin, nationality, addresses and contact details, marital status, educational background, professional qualifications, honours, professional memberships, work experience, current employment status, salary and employer, extracurricular activities and other relevant information.
Applicants are also required to provide the names and addresses of three referees, two of whom must be professionals in the candidate’s area of specialisation.
The university said the salary is “very attractive” and the same as obtainable in other public universities in Nigeria.
All applications must reach the Registrar, Abia State University, Uturu, not later than September 22, 2026.
The institution further noted that only shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview.
