Ohuhu Ikeala Nsulu stood still in celebration during its August Meeting on Saturday, 15th August, 2026, as Senator Austin Akobundu delivered a new solar-powered water borehole, flagged off for immediate construction.
In a clear departure from the politics of empty pledges, Senator Akobundu, who was Special Guest of Honour at the event, told the cheering crowd that he came “not to campaign, but to deliver.” After confirming water as the community’s most urgent need, he arrived the venue with his team of engineers and equipment in tow, declaring: “I came fully prepared,” sending the people into wild jubilation.
“We are not returning tomorrow to start the work. We are starting immediately,” he assured, as chants of Ekwueme (man of his word) filled the hall. The project, he confirmed, will be completed in two weeks and commissioned within a month.
Noting the hall’s condition, he pledged to have it enhanced before Christmas, assuring the women that more projects would follow. “Prepare your requests. When I return in pursuit of my aspirations, we will tick them off one by one,” he said.
He further urged the community to thank Governor Alex Otti for “taking over and continuing” the Ntalakwu-Oloko-Nchara-Nchara Oloko road, a project he noted he had earlier started. He expressed confidence Gov. Otti would deliver it before Christmas, promising to engage him directly on that.
After the August Meeting, the people moved to the project site where Senator Akobundu, who is also the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District in the forthcoming general elections, doubled down on his “politics of action” mantra: “Leadership is measured by impact, not billboards or promises,” and thereafter performed the flag-off ceremony.The contractor confirmed to the people that full payment had been made for the water project and pledged to deliver it within two weeks followed by two years of free maintenance.
The Traditional Ruler, Eze Sir PC Ugbogu, through his Prime Minister, commended Senator Akobundu for the gesture, declared him adopted as a son of the soil and prayed for the fulfilment of his aspirations.
Other speakers stated that such a swift response from Senator Akobundu was one never seen before. “We have never seen this kind from the political class” they noted.
A community leader, Hon. Matthew Chinwogu Ogbonna, in his address did not hold back: “Because of your good works today; because you promised us water today and you also fulfilled it today, consider all the polling units in Ohuhu Ikeala Nsulu as your victory zones. We will return you victorious in all of them,” he declared.
The women appreciated the Senator for honouring their invitation and pledged their commitment to his cause.
The event underscored Senator Akobundu’s brand of politics and leadership: environment-friendly infrastructure, zero delay, people-centred leadership and a repudiation of politics-as-usual.
