Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order disqualifying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku was at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday in connection with the suit, which challenges the eligibility of President Tinubu to participate in the 2027 presidential race.
The suit reportedly centres on an alleged discrepancy in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Atiku alleged that the NYSC discharge certificate submitted to INEC by Tinubu bore the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle”, which he claimed differs from the President’s name, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The former vice president is asking the court to determine whether the alleged discrepancy and the circumstances surrounding the certificate affect Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
The suit comes as political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify, potentially setting the stage for another major legal battle over presidential eligibility.
However, the allegations contained in the suit are yet to be determined by the court, and President Tinubu and other parties involved will have the opportunity to respond.
