The Court of Appeal in Abuja has unanimously dismissed an appeal filed by the Turaki Group challenging the judgment of the Federal High Court (FHC), Ibadan, which recognized the Abdulrahman-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee.

In its ruling, the appellate court affirmed the lower court’s decision and held that the appeal was merely academic, noting that it raised no live issue requiring judicial determination.

The Federal High Court had, in January 2026, declined to recognize the executive committee produced by the Turaki Group at the Ibadan convention. Instead, the court upheld the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led Caretaker Committee, which organized the PDP National Convention that produced the party’s current National Working Committee (NWC).

With the dismissal of the appeal, the Court of Appeal has effectively sustained the legal recognition of the Abdulrahman-led Caretaker Committee and validated the National Convention of the Party held in March 2026, the processes that led to the emergence of the party’s current leadership.

The judgment is expected to strengthen the legal standing of the PDP’s existing National Working Committee amid ongoing internal party disputes.
