Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
In a statement, Lawal alleged that the party’s presidential primary process was manipulated in favour of Atiku, claiming that the outcome had been predetermined.

He said he could not be part of what he described as a “rigging machine” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Lawal also criticized Atiku’s leadership credentials, describing him as unfit for the presidency and accusing him of promoting divisive ethnic and religious politics.
The former SGF further stated that President Bola Tinubu would be a better president than Atiku.
Neither Atiku Abubakar nor the ADC had responded to Lawal’s claims at the time of filing this report. The allegations could not be independently verified.
