The Labour Party (LP) has cleared former senator, Sen. Darlighton Nwokocha, alongside other aspirants seeking to contest the 2027 National Assembly elections in Abia State.

According to the official report released by the party’s National Screening Committee on May 23, 2026, the affected aspirants were successfully screened and approved to participate in the party’s forthcoming primary elections.

The report, signed by the party’s National Chairman, Sen. Nenadi Esther Usman, and National Secretary, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, stated that the screening exercise was conducted in compliance with the Labour Party constitution, electoral guidelines and rules governing the 2026 primaries.

For the senatorial positions, those cleared include Sen. Darlighton Nwokocha for Abia Central, David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex for Abia North, and Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe for Abia South.

Similarly, the party cleared eight aspirants for the House of Representatives race. They include Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for Aba North/South, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for Arochukwu/Ohafia, Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso for Bende, and Hon. Ginger Onwusibe for Isiala Ngwa North/South.

Others are Hon. Godwin Amobi Ogah for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi, Dr. Chiemela Wambu for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo, Hon. Obinna Aguocha for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South, and Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke for Ukwa East/West.

The committee noted that the aspirants met the requirements of the screening process and commended them for their cooperation and commitment throughout the exercise.

The party wished all cleared aspirants success in the forthcoming primary elections.
