In Japan, the President will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for August 20–22 in Yokohama. The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business environment, strengthening institutions, and fostering innovation through private investment. It will also promote a resilient and sustainable African society anchored on human security, peace, and stability.

Alongside attending plenary sessions, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies with investments in Nigeria.

TICAD, launched in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in Tunisia in August 2022. The forum serves as a platform for high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and global development partners.

Following the conference, President Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. In Brazil, he will hold bilateral talks with his host and participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors.

The Nigerian delegation, which includes key ministers and senior officials, will work to strengthen bilateral cooperation and sign agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.
