The Council of Legal Education has formally invited the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, to respond to a petition seeking the withdrawal and cancellation of his law qualifying certificate.

According to an official letter dated April 21, 2026, the Council confirmed it received a petition on March 16, 2026, calling for the revocation of Kalu’s Qualifying Certificate No. 051144. A copy of the petition was attached for his review.
The Council also disclosed that a three-member ad hoc committee was constituted on April 17, 2026, to investigate the matter. As part of the process, Kalu has been given seven days to submit a written response to the allegations.
The committee may also request his personal appearance if deemed necessary during the course of the investigation.
