Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Austin Akobundu, today paid a visit to an ongoing skills acquisition and empowerment programme sponsored by him for the youths of Abia Central Senatorial District.

The training programme which entered its 3rd day today, is holding at the Kolpin Media and Events Centre, Umuahia.

Akobundu who toured the different sections of the training programme to assess the progress being made expressed delight at the large number and the enthusiasm shown by the participants who were drawn from the six local government areas that make up the constituency: Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Osisioma, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.

In his address to the trainees, the senator stated that he was not only determined but also encouraged to continue sponsoring the empowerment programme because of the huge success recorded from past similar programmes funded by him.

While commending the trainers for their expertise in the training, he expressed pleasure at the quick rate the participants were acquiring the practical knowledge of how to make high-quality paints and various cosmetic products.

Beyond sponsoring the programme, Akobundu promised to give cash awards to the participants after the training to assist them start their own production in the hope that they would have the needed consistency and perseverance to grow their businesses into a large and competitive enterprise with time.

Earlier, the trainers who were some of the best hands in their respective fields, narrated the processes of the trainings to ensure that the participants were well-grounded in their chosen areas of enterprise by the end of the programme. They addressed some of the concerns Senator Akobundu raised, which included the need for safety, careful handling of chemicals, strong branding, etc, to the delight of the Senator.

On their part, the participants expressed deep gratitude to the Senator for his consistency in providing skills acquisition and empowerment opportunities for the youths and other demographics of his constituency and pledged to make the best use of the programme to become successful entrepreneurs in the near future.

While pledging their support for his aspirations, they urged him not to rest on his laurels but continue to improve the welfare of his people through his strategic approach to people-centred leadership.

Highlight of the event included display of products already produced by the participants and a group photograph of Senator Akobundu with the participants.

Among those on Senator Austin Akobundu’s entourage were Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi, Hon. Stephen Mpamugo, Hon. Prince Obinna Okey, among others.

Recall that the senator had few months ago sponsored similar trainings, including training on ICT and ICT-related fields; farming and sewing with cash awards and empowerment items gifted the participants, among other programmes.
