The Abia State Government has held the final strategic coordination meeting of the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) Steering Committee ahead of the Centre’s formal launch.
The meeting convened key stakeholders with support from International IDEA and the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC), aimed at strengthening coordination, accountability, and sustainability in the state’s response to sexual and gender-based violence.
Discussions centred on the SARC operational model, survivor-centred services under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act as domesticated in Abia State, institutional oversight mechanisms, and inclusive protocols for Persons with Disabilities.
The Nchedo Centre is being anchored within the state’s social protection framework to ensure a structured and enduring response to cases of sexual violence.
Commenting on the development, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna SAN, said Abia State remains resolute in protecting survivors and strengthening justice systems.
