INEC effected the recognition on its official website on Thursday, following a subsisting order of the Federal High Court. The update formally lists Senator Usman and Senator Nwokocha as the party’s national leaders, with a clear indication that the action was taken in compliance with a court directive.
The development comes after a prolonged legal battle over the leadership of the Labour Party, which traversed several judicial levels, including the Supreme Court, before being remitted back to the Federal High Court for final determination. The court proceedings were aimed at resolving internal disputes that had engulfed the party and raised questions about its legitimate national leadership.
By updating its records, INEC has effectively given official recognition to the Nenadi Usman–Darlington Nwokocha leadership, a move that is expected to have significant implications for the party’s internal stability, administrative activities, and future electoral engagements.
Political observers say the decision may help bring clarity to the Labour Party’s leadership structure after months of uncertainty, while also setting the stage for reconciliation or further realignments within the party ahead of upcoming political activities.
