ABUJA — Abdulmumin Jibrin, a close associate of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has again met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting, held on Sunday night, lasted two hours — from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. — marking the second time in two weeks that the former lawmaker has conferred with the president.

Presidency sources hinted that discussions may have centred on the relationship between Tinubu and Kwankwaso, as well as the rising anti-All Progressives Congress (APC) sentiments in parts of northern Nigeria.

However, Jibrin declined to comment on the agenda when approached by State House correspondents.

On July 30, Jibrin had met with President Tinubu, telling journalists afterwards that their talks focused on “national unity and development.” Asked then if he was considering defecting to the APC, he responded that “everything is open” and “a possibility,” stressing that the country’s stability and unity were paramount.

The latest meeting comes days after Kwankwaso alleged that the southern region was being favoured in terms of infrastructure and development under the Tinubu administration.

Jibrin is known to maintain close political ties with both President Tinubu and Senator Kwankwaso.
