The Abia State Police Command has arrested three elderly suspected gun runners and recovered a cache of firearms during a targeted intelligence-led operation in Obingwa Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Nworu John (65), Chikezie Ubani (65), and Collins Ukandu (55), were apprehended in the early hours of Thursday, 11 December 2025, following credible intelligence that led operatives to their hideout.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, the operation led to the recovery of seven firearms, including:
Two automatic pump-action guns
Three locally made double-barrel guns
One single-barrel pump-action gun
One locally fabricated six-round revolver
Four live cartridges
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to uncover more details about the alleged gun-running network.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents before, during, and after the Yuletide season. He noted that several arms have been recovered in recent weeks, with many suspects already arraigned and prosecuted as part of ongoing security operations across the state.
