In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command clarified that the footage being shared online is from an incident that occurred earlier in the year and is being recycled to cause unnecessary fear and panic among residents. Police authorities said adequate measures were taken at the time to secure the release of the victims involved in that earlier incident.
Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, urged members of the public to disregard the misleading content, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of heightening tension.
He assured commuters of strengthened security along the Owerri–Aba axis, noting that the Command is working in synergy with sister security agencies and local vigilance groups to ensure safe movement, especially during the festive season.
Residents were encouraged to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact the Command’s emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
The statement was signed by DSP Okoye Henry, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Command.
