The High Court of Abia State, Isiala Ngwa Judicial Division, has issued an interim order restraining the Labour Party national leadership under Barr. Julius Abure from conducting Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses in Abia State scheduled for December 2, 4, and 6, 2025.

The order, delivered by Hon. Justice Enyinnaya Okezie on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, followed a motion filed by Hon. (Sir) Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti (KSA) against the Labour Party, its national chairman, national secretary, and other defendants including the Abia State Police Commissioner, Inspector General of Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

the Court Order that:

  • The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Defendants (Labour Party, Julius Abure, and Umar Faruk Ibrahim) are restrained from empowering or directing the 4th Defendant to conduct the scheduled congresses.
  • The 4th Defendant, Dr. Prince G.O. Ndubueze, is also restrained from convening or presiding over any congresses in Abia State pending the hearing of the substantive motion.
  • The 7th Defendant (INEC) is restrained from observing or participating in the planned congresses.
  • The court granted leave for substituted service on the defendants, including delivery through WhatsApp and pasting notices at designated addresses in Abuja and Umuahia.
  • All defendants must be served with court processes within seven working days, or the interim order will lapse.
  • The case is adjourned to December 17, 2025, for hearing of the motion on notice.

The ruling effectively halts all planned Labour Party congress activities in Abia State until the substantive matter is resolved.
