Speaking during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Kalu warned against what he described as “noise-making and emotional reactions,” stressing that the situation required maturity and restraint.
According to him, more than 30,000 Igbo people have been killed, displaced, or have lost their livelihoods in the years surrounding the agitation led by Kanu. He added that soldiers and other citizens have also been killed or maimed during the crisis.
Kalu revealed that he was the first to demand Kanu’s release as a condition before joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that efforts were made at the time to secure bail for the detained IPOB leader.
He appealed for a more pragmatic approach, saying:
“Nnamdi Kanu is not the only one suffering here. My fellow Igbos should stop being emotional. Let us see if a political solution is possible.”
The senator emphasized the need for unity, dialogue, and a focus on long-term solutions to end the crisis.
