The Abia State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has announced the commencement of the second batch of its 2025 teachers recruitment exercise aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified teachers in schools across the state.

According to an official statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and dated November 4, 2025, the online application portal will be open from November 6 to November 19, 2025.

The statement clarified that the application process is free of charge and must be completed online via the Ministry’s official website

www.mobse-abiastategov.ng.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified through SMS and/or email and subsequently invited for a Computer-Based Test (CBT). Only applicants who pass the CBT will qualify for the final oral interview.

Eligibility and Requirements

To qualify, applicants must be below 45 years of age as of December 31, 2025. They are also required to possess a minimum of NCE, Degree, Master’s, or Ph.D. qualifications.

The Ministry further stated that the recruitment exercise is designed to fill teaching gaps in both rural and riverine areas of the state. Candidates must be Abians or non-Abians resident in Abia State, while persons with disabilities are also encouraged to apply, provided they hold relevant qualifications in special needs education.

Applicants are advised to ensure that all academic records are correctly filled and that the highest qualification is uploaded during registration.

It was also emphasized that the name used during application cannot be changed at any stage of the recruitment process.

The notice added that candidates without teaching qualifications can still apply, but if selected, they must obtain a relevant teaching qualification within two years as a prerequisite for confirmation of appointment.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving the quality of education across Abia through the recruitment of qualified and competent teaching personnel.
