This was revealed in a memo circulated to all branches of the union. The strike action follows the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued last week, during which the union demanded that the Federal Government address several lingering issues, including the signing and implementation of the renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.
In the memo, ASUU National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to respond meaningfully to the union’s demands, saying the decision to proceed with the warning strike became inevitable after exhaustive consultations across university campuses nationwide.
According to the memo, the strike is intended to compel the government to fulfill its obligations and prevent a total breakdown of the nation’s public university system.
